Rio Tarcoles is where this exciting tour, yet safe for the whole family starts. Approximately 2 hours from San Jose and 25 minutes from Jaco Beach.
This river is bordering the Carara National Park and is particularly known for having world´s largest crocodile (Crocodylae, C. acutus) populations in their natural environment and some of these individuals up to fifteen feet long. This area you can also see iguanas (Iguanidae, Iguana), basilisks (Basilisks sp.) and over fifty different kinds of birds in their natural environment.
Water wading birds are everywhere, also the beautiful Scarlet Macaw which nests in the Carara National Park and if you are lucky, you can see monkeys.
During the journey you will enter the Channel of Guacalillo (Estero Guacalillo), a rich ecosystem where different species of mangroves (the black, the red, the target, and the botoncillo) are located.
